Cervelo S1 vs. S2 … (Owners also carbon cycle)?
Hey, I'm looking to buy a new bike for the next cycling season as I begin to train and compete a lot more and I have narrowed my choice to Cervelo S1 or S2, both with a comprehensive set of DA 7900 and Zipp 404 wheels for racing. (Most likely will wait until the 2010 model for the solo work I like to paint more) My only concern is the carbon in the ES2. I have fear of having a full carbon bike as I have crashed once in the past in my aluminum and survived, but is usually a carbon frame to forgive. New York City streets are not so great in the first place. The price is not a problem, but this bike at least 3 years have, and if i crash or dent my carbon frame there is no other option for me to buy a new one. Any ideas?
Good carbon frames reputable companies are very strong, and not really any more likely to be damaged in an accident than any other frame material. Unlike aluminum, carbon does not really have a resistance to fatigue, so a good carbon frame could last longer an aluminum frame. I have had many bikes, my first was a good steel, and was retired due to damage from impact, My other one was titanium, which developed a crack, Since then I have been riding carbon frames, with no major fall flawless frame. Before you buy, do your research, there are some very reliable carbon frames there. Try to buy a bike made by a company that manufactures their frames in their own factory, not many
